Joseph Goldberger was a physician, medical researcher, and epidemiologist with the United States Public Health Service, 1899-1929. The collection chiefly consists of personal and professional correspondence of and about Goldberger. Materials document his field work and research in connection with pellagra, typhus, dengue, yellow fever, and other epidemic diseases throughout the southern United States, Mexico, and the West Indies. Included are letters from Goldberger to his wife, Mary Farrar Goldberger of New Orleans, her papers after his death concerning his biography, and two scrapbooks of clippings and photographs.
